As a permanent observer member, the UIHJ, represented by its former First Vice-President, Mathieu Chardon, participated in this meeting of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice of the Council of Europe (CEPEJ), chaired by João Arsenio de Oliveira, in presence of Francesco Depasquale, CEPEJ President.
Numerous points were discussed during two intense days of work, including the one on 28th March, which was shared with the CEPEJ Working Group on Cyberjustice (GT-CYBERJUST), including:
- Mediation: the place of children in civil and family mediation and a practical handbook for mediators
- Quality of the jurisdictional debate: draft guidelines on the quality of the jurisdictional debate
- Access to justice: discussion on a draft structure of the checklist for promoting access to justice
- Revision of the satisfaction surveys methodology
- Possible revision of the CEPEJ Guidelines on enforcement
- Joint work with other CEPEJ working groups to improve work-life balance in the judiciary
- Piloting of the Assessment Tool for the operationalisation of the European Ethical Charter on the use of artificial intelligence in judicial Systems and their environment
- Translation and interpretation in judicial proceedings and court files
- Discussions on future joint work
