For several years now, France has been active in Lao PDR, supporting the reform of the justice system. Within this support, UIHJ is actively involved in the ” Judicial Services, Training and Institutions Capacity Enhancement (JuSTICE) Project” which is financed by the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD).
Through its experts (Jos Uitdehaag, first vice president, and Zlaty Mihailova, member of the UIHJ expert group), UIHJ provides technical and practical support to the enforcement department of the Ministry of Justice in order to improve the enforcement of judgments in Lao PDR. Such support includes providing advice and support to the Ministry to develop a practical manual on the enforcement of judgments in order to make it a pragmatic and didactic tool that takes into account all the issues and challenges faced by the enforcement department; to provide support in the development of tools to be used during the training of the Enforcement Officers.
In the project, UIHJ closely cooperates with the enforcement department, the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, the People’s Supreme Court and the National Insitute of Justice.
On 24 September, the UIHJ experts had a meeting with Mr. Ketsana Phommachane, vice-minister of Justice of Lao PDR. On that occasion, Mr. Phommachane thanked the UIHJ for its ongoing support to Lao PDR.
