Jean-Pierre Herbette, Vice-President of the UIHJ and Treasurer of the National Chamber of Commissioners of Justice of France, had the honour of representing the President of the UIHJ, Marc Schmitz, at this event organised by the Portuguese Order of Solicitadores and Enforcement Agents (OSAE). On this occasion, Jean-Pierre Herbette was accompanied by Luis Ignacio Ortega Alcubierre, Special Advisor to the President of the UIHJ.
In front of an audience of three hundred participants, Jean-Pierre Herbette expressed the gratitude of the UIHJ for the warm welcome and the solid collaboration between the two organisations, a partnership based on mutual trust and a shared commitment to the future of the profession.
A look to the future
During his speech, Jean-Pierre Herbette stressed the importance of the 26th International Congress of Judicial Officers to be held in Lisbon in 2027, which will be a key moment to reflect on the evolutions of the profession, in a context of technological, legal and social changes.
The impact of digitalisation and AI
He also mentioned the growing importance of digital transformation in the judicial field, particularly with artificial intelligence. However, Jean-Pierre Herbette also recalled that humans must imperatively remain at the centre of decisions and that AI must serve justice without replacing human reflection.
The social role of the judicial officer
Finally, the UIHJ Vice-President reaffirmed the importance of the social role of judicial officers, who are not only executors but also mediators guaranteeing the balance of the rights and duties of citizens, and thus contributing to social peace.
Luis Ignacio Ortega Alcubierre, for his part, gave a notable speech on the subject of corruption and money laundering.
The other presentations of the day focused in turn on the situation of housing and access to real estate ownership in Portugal, the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters as well as on good practices aimed at reconciling professional and personal life.
