The “Balkans Enforcement Strengthening Project” (BESP) funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implemented by the Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) and the UIHJ this year organised a Train the Trainers program for members of the judiciary in North Macedonia.
In close cooperation with the Academy for judges and public prosecutors in North Macedonia, during 3 sessions, judges from basic courts, courts of appeal and supreme court, followed a tailor made Train-the-Trainers (ToT) program. The trainings were delivered by Jos Uitdehaag, first vice-president of UIHJ and BESP project Lead expert, Zlatislava Mihailova, BESP project Senior expert and Prof. Ilija Rumenov, HCCH National Champion for North Macedonia.
North Macedonia on 16 May 2023 signed the 2019 HCCH Judgments Convention. Though not (yet) ratified, it became obvious that the legal system and judiciary in North Macedonia needed to strengthen capacities, competencies, professionalism and expertise in the area of international legal assistance, recognition and enforcement of civil and commercial judgments.
On 25 and 26 June the last session was organised and 10 judges received their UIHJ accreditation is a professional trainer in the field of private international law. This way a core group of trainers from civil judges in North Macedonia was established.
Congratulations to all participants to the ToT!
