Already for several years, the HCCH is organizing the a|Bridged series. These series convene experts and stakeholders from around the world to explore the work of the HCCH in the broader context of innovation in transnational civil or commercial litigation. Previous editions focused on the 1965 Service Convention (Edition 2019), the 1970 Evidence Convention (Edition 2020), and the 2005 Choice of Court Convention (Edition 2021).
The edition 2025 was dedicated to the 2019 Judgments Convention. On 20 November 2025, the UIHJ participated in the HCCH hosted a|Bridged – Edition 2025. Over 190 registered participants from 57 States participated in the online event “Enhancing the global circulation of judgments with the HCCH 2019 Judgment Convention”.
International experts discussed the impact of the 2019 Judgement Convention. UIHJ was represented by its first vice-president, Jos Uitdehaag. Among the other experts there were: Christophe Bernasconi, secretary general of HCCH and Melissa Ford, secretary of HCCH, David Goddard (New Zealand, chair of the diplomatic session of HCCH that adopted the 2019 Convention and appeal judge ret), , Andreas Stein (head of the civil justice unit of the European Commission), Marcos Sebastian Dotta Salgueiro (University Republic of Uruguay), Maxine Cristiano (head international law department Ministry of Justice UK), Raquel Vargas Jaubert (lawyer, Costa Rica), Joseph N. Khawan (attorney officer of legal advisor US Department of State), Raman Maroz (topic lead of dispute resolution team, World Bank), Daniela Dyer Melhado (World Bank legal analyst dispute resolution team), Yoshihisa Hayakawa (professor of law Rikkyo university Tokyo), Zlaty Mihailova (international development expert specialised in enforcement law, Bulgaria), Francisco Garcimartin (chair professor University Madrid), Tijn van Os (appeal judge Netherlands), Roberta Chan (dispute resolution group Baker McKenzie Hong Kong) and Marcelo de Nardi (federal judge, Brazil), Cara North (Special Counsel, Melbourne) and Genevieve Saumier (dean and professor faculty of law Montreal university).
The discussions underlined the importance if the 2019 Judgment Convention as a foundation stone, a game-changer in transnational litigation, promoting access to justice, providing certainty and predictability in cross-border litigation and supporting international trade, investment and mobility.
