Marc Schmitz, President of the UIHJ, met in Algiers (Algeria) on 5 March 2023 His Excellency Abderrachid Tabi, Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals of the Democratic and People’s Republic of Algeria.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Justice of the Democratic and People’s Republic of Algeria. Also taking part in the meeting were Ahmed Ali Saleh, Director of Civil Affairs and the Seal of the Democratic and People’s Republic of Algeria, Mohamed Reda Dahmri, President of the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Algeria, and Mohamed Reda Bougrine, in charge of international relations at the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Algeria.

Many topics were discussed during a particularly cordial and warm interview, including:

  • The modernisation of the profession and the digitisation of justice.
  • The legislative reforms underway in Algeria as part of enforcement procedures.
  • The presentation of the UIHJ and its relations with the various international institutions.
  • The presentation of the Global Code of Enforcement and the Global Code of Digital Enforcement, a copy of each code having been given to the Minister.
  • The role of the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Algeria within the UIHJ.
  • The material skills of judicial officers in Algeria.
  • The Hague Convention of 15 November 1965 on the service abroad of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil or commercial matters, and the advantages for Algeria to join.

From these rich discussions it was decided that the UIHJ will accompany the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Algeria in its process of digitisation and modernisation, that it will bring its support within the framework of the training of Algerian judicial officers, in particular in terms of training of trainers, and that the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Algeria will strengthen its role within the UIHJ, with the support of the Ministry of Justice of the Democratic and People’s Republic of Algeria in the development of international relations.
