Unidroit, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, is one of the leading international legal organizations in the field of private law. Unidroit is seated in Rome, Italy. Its purpose is the study of the needs and methods for coordination, modernization and harmonization of private law between (groups of) States and to formulate uniform law instruments, principles and rules to achieve such goals. In that respect is closely cooperates with international organizations such as Uncitral and the World Bank.

In 2020 Unidroit established a working group with the aim to develop a set of best practices for effective enforcement. Within this working group three sub working groups were established: Subgroup 1 – Enforcement by way of public authority); Subgroup 2 – Enforcement security rights and Subgroup 3 – Impact of technology on enforcement.

Recently 12-14 December, Unidroit held its 6th working group meeting in Rome. UIHJ was represented by its first vice-president Jos Uitdehaag.

The work of Unidroit is globally. This can also be noticed when we look at the composition of the working group. Representatives are coming from China, Brazil, Canada, USA, Australia, Italy, Spain and Germany. In addition to these members, the Working Group counts on the institutional observers who also participate: Organization of American States )OAS); European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Commission (DG JUST); European Law Institute (ELI); Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH); International Association of Legal Science (IALS); Kozolchyk National Law Center (NatLaw)؛ Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law; Secured Finance Network; Supreme People’s Court of China (Ms ZHU Ke, Judge, China); United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL); World Bank Group; Zemgale Regional Court (Latvia).

Also UIHJ, represented by its first vice-president Jos Uitdehaag, participates as an institutional observer in the work of this project.
