In its capacity as an observer member, the UIHJ, represented by its Secretary-General, Mathieu Chardon, participated on 5 March 2024 in The Hague in the first day of the annual meeting of this Council on General Affairs and Policy (CGAP), which ensures the operation of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) through the Permanent Bureau, the activities of which it directs and which meets every year.
Christophe Bernasconi gave an account of the activities of HCCH of which he is Secretary-General, over the past year. During this period, 19 new signatures of conventions from 15 countries were recorded. To date, 156 countries are linked to at least one of the instruments developed by HCCH.
HCCH gave the many participants a copy of the HCCH activities report for the year 2023.
Among the themes covered during this first day, the UIHJ was particularly attentive to the discussions concerning digital assets and tokens, central bank digital currencies, digital economy and digital tokens.
