The UIHJ took part on 2 February 2017 in Brussels on the second day of the 15th Annual Meeting of the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters (EJN) and presented the UEHJ which, together with its 25 member states, represents henceforth the profession of judicial officer before the institutions of the European Union.

The UIHJ was represented by its Secretary General Mathieu Chardon. Various topics were on the agenda. Among these themes, the new JURE database, the preparation of the Internal Market Information Service (IMI) pilot project for the EJN, the proposal for a working group on data gathering and statistics, the proposal for a practical guide on applicable law and jurisdiction concerning consumers contracts, the presentation of the 2016 report from the European Commission on the application of Directive 2008/52/EC on certain aspects of mediation in civil and commercial matters, the preparation for the application of the new Insolvency Regulation , the Regulations on jurisdiction, applicable law and the recognition and enforcement of decisions in matters of matrimonial property regimes, or the 2016 report on European Judicial Training. As usual, the exchanges were particularly interesting and very productive.

Pal Sziranyi (DG Justice and Consumers of the European Commission) presented a report on the follow-up to the EJN discussions held in Bratislava, Slovakia, mid-November 2016 on the service of documents and taking of evidence.

During the meeting, Mathieu Chardon officially informed the members of the EJN of the creation of the European Union of judicial officers (UEHJ). He explained that, with its 25 member countries, the UEHJ, an independent organisation but in close association with the UIHJ, had henceforth a vocation to represent the judicial officers of the European Union before the European institutions.
